I'm Marc, working at ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe since 2015 and doing freelance IT for small businesses for almost 20 years. My journey started with a 486DX2 and a 56k modem where I had to yell at my mom to get off the phone. Been hooked ever since.

ZKM

At ZKM - often called the "digital Bauhaus" - I make digital art actually work in exhibitions. This means:

Restoring 30 years of browser art (Flash, Java Applets, IE4-era stuff) - many works considered permanently lost are now functional again
Building infrastructure that controls 500+ devices across exhibitions spanning 6000 sqm
LiDAR visitor tracking - started as a COVID-era prototype, scaled to 53 sensors covering 1400 sqm
3D printing custom mounts, sensor housings, and adapters for installations
AI tools for museum staff
Technical production for artist projects and international touring exhibitions (20+ countries)

IT Security

Security was always part of the job, whether it's locking down exhibition PCs in a public space or auditing a company's network. I offer security audits for small and medium businesses - penetration testing, network analysis, and reports written for business owners, not security engineers.

Freelance IT

Alongside everything else, I've been a freelance IT generalist since before university:

Small office IT - network setup, workstations, backup, ongoing maintenance
Web development and hosting for small businesses - some clients for over 10 years
Self-hosted infrastructure - Nextcloud, mail servers, DNS filtering
